Peace to Mutants #3 — Tom Lehrer, Teengenerate, Boris Vian

Again Cláudia Zafre brings us rare and exotic musical itens: the masochistic tangos of Tom Lehrer, japanese punk-rock of Teengenerate and the caustic compositions of Boris Vian.

If you’ve ever read Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch and thought “Hey, this could be me”, you will be enchanted when you hear “The Masochism Tango” by Tom Lehrer.

Tom Lehrer was born in 1928 and dedicated his life to mathematics and music… the satirical kind. His songs were recorded mostly between the 50s and 60s and acquired influence in the counterculture movement. His songs had melodies that parodied popular music and witty, subversive, and hilarious lyrics, that became so popular that motivated him to record Songs by Tom Lehrer in 1953.

Following the success of the debut, Lehrer recorded yet another album called “More of Tom Lehrer” that became a cult classic.

Tom Lehrer is now 95 years old and is still a staple of satirical and witty music. Several musicians/composers have stated him as a huge influence and Rhino Records reissued the boxed cd set “The remains of Tom Lehrer” including live and studio versions of his first two studio albums and some unreleased material.

E AINDA:

Teengenerate¬ Get action

Lo¬fi and raw garage.punk from Japan. Filled with teenage angst and rebellion, it grabs you by the throat and wont let you go. Teengenerate has a couple of recordings and 2 major lenght albums, since they were only active between 1993¬1995. This is their debut and it is filled with short, hellish fast and noisy songs. As sincere as it can be.

Boris Vian – Le prince de Saint-Germain-Des-Prés

A compilation of songs by writer-inventor-musician-extradinaire Boris Vian. Includes some of his best known songs such as “Je Boi”, “Je Suis Snob” and “Fais-moi mal Johnny”. Vocal jazz with some swing and jazz inspired moments and the usual caustic and bittersweet words by Boris Vian. Amusing and heartfelt from one of the most interesting writers ever to grace this planet.
